HSCST Fellowship Programme Eligibility
To apply for the HSCST Fellowship, candidates should be under 28 years old as of January 1, 2024. The age limit can be relaxed by 5 years for women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, physically handicapped persons, and OBC candidates. Applicants must have completed an M.Sc. degree or an equivalent qualification and should have scored at least 55% marks.
Additionally, they must have qualified in the Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Lectureship (LS) held in June 2024. Candidates who are already receiving financial support from other fellowships are not eligible. However, those who have qualified JRF-NET but are not currently funded by CSIR/UGC for valid reasons can apply.
Benefits
The fellowship provides financial help to students based on their qualification. Those who have qualified the JRF-NET receive ₹31,000 per month as Junior Research Fellows and ₹35,000 as Senior Research Fellows. Candidates who qualify only for LS-NET receive ₹18,000 per month as JRF and ₹21,000 as SRF.
In addition to the monthly stipend, an annual contingency grant of ₹20,000 is given to the university or institution to support research expenses like buying books or equipment. If the fellowship lasts less than one year, this grant is given on a proportional basis. Any unused grant can be carried over to the next year.
Duration of Fellowship
The fellowship supports students for the entire period of their full-time Ph.D. research. It continues as long as the student is enrolled and meeting the requirements set by the council. This ensures that the student has financial support throughout the research work.
